Circular 01: Issues - Entitlements for Employees

24 January 2013

In circulars 31 and 32 last year, we raised the issue of entitlements for employees whose positions have been declared surplus in QRN’s restructure last year and as a result, have chosen to be relocated to a different town or centre for work.

The issue is that Aurizon (or QR National, as they were at the time) said that these people were not entitled to certain benefits that were contained in the “managing surplus employees” policy because they had not been declared – by way of a letter – to be EITs.

Since then the RTBU has attended a conciliation conference at the Fair Work Commission (or Fair Work Australia, as they were then). The RTBU is still attempting to reach a resolution on this matter, however, before a resolution can be reached, we would need to identify all who believe that they are affected by this policy.

If you were relocated during the 2012 round of VRs and believe that you are missing out on some entitlements, please contact Bruce Mackie immediately by email Bruce.mackie@rtbu.com.au.

It is vital that you make contact, as we need to have your details should a resolution be made with Aurizon or you may not be included.
