Qld Government ARTC Investigation

Today an announcement was made by both the State Government and the Federal Government that a review will commence seeking to determine whether it is appropriate to integrate Queensland Regional Rail Network with the National Rail Network. The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is the manager and controller of most of the rail infrastructure outside metropolitan areas in the rest of Australia. However, it should be noted that this is predominately standard gauge areas which includes the standard gauge rail from the Queensland border.

The RTBU is naturally concerned about any potential impact on membersí jobs security that could emanate from the transfer of ownerships and/or control of the regional network to the Federal Government owned ARTC. The RTBU is meeting with Queensland Rail in respect of this matter tomorrow and has also been in communication with the Transport Ministerís office. This Union has also sought an urgent meeting with the Australian Rail Track Corporation in order to determine the scope of the proposed review and more detail on exactly what they are seeking to achieve out of it.

Members can be assured that the RTBU will be engaged throughout this process and will ensure that our members are advised of any developments or further information provided.

Unity is Strength
