QR & Campbell Newman out to Swipe away your Conditions

It is with grave disappointment I have to advise you that the RTBU has been involved in negotiation (conciliation) with QR since the overwhelming rejection of the “Government’s” draft agreement for QR workers with no attempts being made by the employer to reach a reasonable outcome.

It has been pretty clear throughout this process that QR has riding instructions from the Government to remove some of the hard fought for and won conditions that you have achieved over the last few decades in one ‘foul’ swoop. This is very similar to what they have tried to do, and unfortunately at times succeeded, in other parts of the public sector.

Newman changed the legislation so that you are not even able to stand up and fight for these conditions and are not even allowed to continue with negotiations for these conditions once the employer (under instructions from this Government) seeks arbitration from the Industrial Relations Commission.

QR has referred it to the Industrial Relations Commission and we are now about to enter the arbitration stage.

The Government has also passed legislation which sets down factors that the Commission has to take into consideration and the emphasis of the importance of these conditions. This means that whilst the individual Commissioners may look at this in a balanced view the whole set up of the Legislation is designed against the worker.

However, given the absolute appalling attack on conditions that was contained in the previous draft Agreement rejected by QR workers, the Union is confident that we will make progress from where we were when you were asked to vote to sacrifice a whole host of your conditions on the basis that you take a real wage cut (pay offer about 1% below inflation), and a real wage cut of many as a result of the loss of allowances and additional requirements of expenditure such as petrol that was being placed upon you.

I will ensure you are kept up to date with all developments during this process.

THIS DOES NOT RELATE TO STATION STAFF AT THIS POINT AS THEIR AGREEMENT EXPIRED LATER AND IS STILL AT THE NEGOTIATIONS STAGE
