BMA Member Circular: Mutual Exchange of Shifts

I refer members to our newsletter dated 19 August relating to BMA’s unilateral decision to remove the access to mutual exchange of shifts from BMA employees covered by the BMA Rail Agreement. I have had some initial discussions with the Company which has not resolved this matter as yet. I have therefore today notified the company that a dispute exists under clause 7c of the BMA Rail Certified Agreement 2013.

I indicated clearly that we are of the opinion that consultation needs to occur as we feel this constitutes a major workplace change described in the above clause.

More importantly, I have enquired about a common sense approach to resolving the matter of mutual swaps and have sought the company look to its employees for ideas via a genuine consultation process that may resolve the issues currently surrounding the mutual swaps.

I will of course report the response from the company upon receipt as part of our continuing endeavour to keep members informed of all developments.
