Coal Traincrew Master Roster (BLANK DAYS)

Following on from meetings with members recently it has become obvious that there is still some confusion around Blank Days in the master roster.

Below are the explicit ground rules for what can and cannot occur on these blank days including;
  • No leave of any type will be deducted for blank days i.e. if an employee takes 5 shifts of annual leave and there is a blank day incorporated, no leave will be deducted for that blank day.

  • Training or medicals must be inserted in the forecast roster with a start time, therefore giving employees 2 weeks’ notice. If no training or medicals are inserted into the forecast roster, the blank day essentially becomes a day off.

  • No operational shifts will be inserted on these days. That includes no on track route or traction tuition and no ROC’s, MOC’s, OJO’s or shifts replacing shunters in yards.

  • Training or medicals must be inserted in the forecast roster with a start time, therefore giving employees 2 weeks’ notice. If no training or medicals are inserted into the forecast roster, the blank day essentially becomes a day off.

  • If approached to work an operational shift, and you agree, you will be paid stand-alone overtime for all hours worked on the blank day.

  • You must be rostered to complete your shift before the commencement of the blank day. However, the company may defer or extend you into a blank day as it is not a designated RDO.

  • If you are rostered medical in the forecast roster, you can complete the medical on that day or at a time that better suits you in the set fortnight. If you choose to complete your medical on another day, it must not affect any rostered workings or company flexibilities with the 2015 TCA. If you choose this option, it is done in your own time and the set medical day returns to a blank day and essentially, a day off.

If these ground rules are not being followed at your depot - please advise your local delegate so we can investigate further.
